The aubergine aka eggplant is a plant of the genus Solanum. It bears a fruit of the same name, commonly used as a vegetable in cooking. Aubergine is a delicate perennial often cultivated as an annual.
Aubergine’s grown in temperate climates fare better when transplanted into the garden once the nights have become warmer. Seeds are typically started eight to ten weeks prior to the anticipated frost-free date. Four years should separate successive crops of aubergines with spacing from 45 cm to 60 cm between the plants.
