The cabbage is a popular cultivar belonging to the family ‘brassicaceae’ and is used as a leafy green vegetable. It is a herbaceous, biennial flowering plant distinguished by a short stem and a mass of green leaves; although red/purple leaves are also available. Cabbage is an excellent source of Vitamin C and contains significant amounts of glutamine (used as an anti-inflammatory).
There are a number of cabbage varities available each with its own distinct look and flavour. These include:
Candisa cabbage seeds - Reliable sweet tasting cabbage.
Celtic cabbage seeds - Uniform shape with very firm head.
Durham Early cabbage seeds – This is one of the earliest Spring cabbages with a large solid head.
Greyhound cabbage seeds - This early Summer cabbage has a pointy head.
Hispi cabbage seeds - Hispi is a very fast grower that needs minimal space
Holland Winter White cabbage seeds - large solid white head from Holland.
Jewel cabbage seeds - An early Autumn cabbage with a striking red colour.

Kilaxy cabbage seeds – Proved highly resilient to club root. Good dense uniform head.
Pixie cabbage seeds – Great favour with small pointy heads.
Resolution cabbage seeds – Early Savoy cabbage with a mild flavour
Stallion cabbage seeds - Crunchy texture with a high yield.
Tundra cabbage seeds – Very hardy and very sweet a classic cabbage.

Growing cabbages
1/ Pick a partially-shaded spot will fertile, free-draining soil.
2/ Sow your seeds according to the instructions on the seed packet. Seeds will germinate around 10 days after sowing.
3/ Transplant seedlings within 6 to 8 weeks.
4/ Rake planting area and add fertiliser.
5/ Use dibbler to make planting holes. Water on a regular basis.
When planting cabbages always remember to refer to the instructions on the seed packets!
