# Growing/ planting chillis
# Chilli recipes
Chillis are the fruit of the plants from the genus Capsicum. Although people see chilli’s as vegetables they are actually considered a berry.
The substance that give chilli’s their intensity is capsaicin. The actual ‘heat’ of the chilli pepper is measured using the Scoville meter. As an example a bell pepper would rank a ‘0’ on the scoville meter whilst a jalapeños pepper measures between 3,000–6,000. We all know that chilli’s are hot but did you know they also contain high amounts of vitamins B and C and carotene.
There are a few different varities of chilli's you can grow. Some of our favourite chilli seeds include:
Apache chilliseeds - Smart looking plant with good tasting chilli's.
Bhut Jolokia chilli seeds - Very, very hot. 1,000,000 on the Scoville.
Chilli de Cayenne chilli seeds - Crisp and fiery chilli's.
Eden Project chilli seeds - Great looking chilli from South America.
Peach Hababero chilli seeds - A particularly hot variey with a good colour.
Red Demon chilli seeds - Small but powerful. Easy to grow.
