Garden tools
When planting in the garden there are ten essential tools that every gardener should own they are as follows.
1. Spade
An obvious but necessary tool that will allow you to work the earth and dig holes. As you’ll be using this frequently it’s best to invest in a top quality shovel.
2. Wheelbarrow
Choose a sturdy robust wheel barrow making sure it’s not too heavy to handle, and that the actual handles are a comfortable distance apart.
3. Rake
Although rakes with metal tines are that little bit more pricier than the wood/ plastic varities you finr them more durable and efficient.
4. Secateurs
A useful addition for every gardener. Buy yourself a decent pair and they’ll last for years.
5. Garden Hose
Look for a hose with at least five-ply walls and brass fittings. A hose reel makes your life just that little bit easier.
6. Trowel
This tool is useful for a number of functions from scooping soil, removing unwanted weeds and digging holes for seeds. The best garden trowels are carbon-coated steel with wooden handles.
7. Sprinkler
A crucial addition if you have a large garden and don’t want the back breaking work using a watering can. Now days you can buy sprinklers with timers and adjustable spray patterns.
8. Hand fork
An important garden tool for loosening, lifting and turning over soil. Garden forks are fairly short, usually with a wooden handle, with a "D" or "T" end. Their tines are usually shorter.
9. Loppers
Useful long-handled, pruners for applying greater pressure and force. Ideal for large branches and hard-to-reach limbs
10. Lawnmower
Although it’s not crucial the mower is a must for a well-manicured lawn. You can buy a range of mowers from manual push lawnmowers to self-propelled gas-powered lawnmower.
Of course don't forget garden clothing. Gloves, wellies and overall's can protect your clothes ... especially when tinkering in the soil.
