The parsnip is a root vegetable related to the carrot. Parnips tend to flourish in cooler climates as frost helps develop the flavour. They can be planted early Spring or as soon as you are able to work the ground and tend to prefer silty, clay soil.

Growing parsnips
1/Parsnip germination can be tricky and it can be very hard to get a full row of seeds that have all geminated.
2/ Parsnip seeds can grow in a variety of soil however if you want a good shaped parsnip then they will need deep soil.
3/ Sow four seeds around six inches apart around March to April.
4/ Thin parsnip seedlings to one seed per cluster once geminated.
5/ Harvest parsnips around November time.
When planting parsnips always remember to refer to the instructions on the seed packets!
