The parsnip is a root vegetable related to the carrot. Parnips tend to flourish in cooler climates as frost helps develop the flavour. They can be planted early Spring or as soon as you are able to work the ground and tend to prefer silty, clay soil. There are a number of different varieties of Parsnips. Some of the most common parsnip seeds include “Gladiator” seeds which is an all round performer, “Albion” seeds which produces parsnips with long tapering roots and resistant to Parsnip canker, “White Gem” seeds which offer up a heavy yield, “Hamburg Parsley” seeds which is a very robust parsnip and “Lancer” seeds which can be harvested from early June to the end of November.

Growing parsnips
1/Parsnip germination can be tricky and it can be very hard to get a full row of seeds that have all geminated.
2/ Parsnip seeds can grow in a variety of soil however if you want a good shaped parsnip then they will need deep soil.
3/ Sow four seeds around six inches apart around March to April.
4/ Thin parsnip seedlings to one seed per cluster once geminated.
5/ Harvest parsnips around November time.
