Growing runner beans
1/ Runner beans prefer a moist, fertile soil in a sunny, partially sheltered spot.
2/ Prepare the site by digging over and adding manure. If you are growing in pots then make sure there are draining holes and fill with a mixture of equal parts loam-based compost and loam-free compost.
3/ Supporting the runner bean is crucial. Either make a wigwam with cane bamboo or create a parallel row of canes.
4/ Sowing seeds indoors will result in a faster more efficient germination. Runner bean seeds will be ready to plant out after about three weeks.
5/ Regularly water the runner beans.
6/ Regular picking is very important, the more you pick, the more they produce.
When planting runner beans always remember to refer to the instructions on the seed packets!
