Sage is a perennial evergreen shrub with grey leaves and blue/purple flowers and native to the Mediterranean. Sage is a popular herb used for the likes of stuffing or to flavour meat dishes.

There are a number of sage varieties you can choose to grow. Some of the most common sage seeds include “Tricolor” sage seeds which produce fantastic, multi-coloured leaves, “Green leaves” sage seeds which produces silvery-green leaves of sage with a great taste.

Growing sage

1/ Sage is an easy herb to grow and will tolerate most conditions. Plenty of sunshine however is highly recommended.

2/ As sage seeds can take quite a while to germinate its recommended taking a young sage plant and transplanting it straight into the garden.

3/ General maintenance is required when looking after sage although over-watering should be avoided.

4/ You can grow sage in a container with normal potting compost making sure it’s in a warm, sunny position.

5/ When harvesting sage simply cut off the leaves with scissors. It’s best to use sage when it’s fresh.

When planting sage always remember to refer to the instructions on the seed packets!
