# Squash recipes

Squashes refer to four species of the genus ‘Cucurbita’ and are natively grown in North America, Europe and India. Well known types of squash include the pumpkin, courgette and butternut squash. Summer squashes such as courgettes are harvested during the growing season, while the skin is still soft and the fruit small. Winter squashes such as butternut are harvested at maturity (generally the end of Summer).

There are a number of squash varieties for you to grow. Some of the more popular squash seeds include:

Cobnut squash seeds – An early maturing butternut squash produces a good crop.
Crown Prince squash seeds - Blue skin and bright orange flesh with a sweet flavour.
Hunter squash seeds – A butternut squash bred in the UK. Gives a great yield.
Polo squash seeds – Matures early with resistance to Downy Mildew.
Jumbo Pink Banana squash seeds - A golden, sweet flesh is soft. Keeps for a good while.
Sweet Dumpling squash seeds – Produces small flavoursome fruits.
