Growing tomatoes:
1/ Tomatoes are sub-tropical plants and thus require a lot of sun position.
2/ Tomato plants tend to grow very well in raised beds in moisture-retentive soil. Add organic matter to the soil as this helps them to grow large and juicy.
3/ You should sow tomato seeds at least 3 weeks after the last frost. Poly tunnels and cloches are also a good idea to help when sowing.
4/ Tomato plants take around 7 weeks from sowing to reach the transplanting stage. Transplant at least two weeks after the last frost date.
5/ The tomato plants should be fed with a liquid fertiliser every two to three weeks (roughly until the end of August). From then on use general fertiliser.
6/ Keep on weeding to discourage pests.
When planting tomatoes always remember to refer to the instructions on the seed packets!
